According to a report by Xinhua News Agency in Tokyo on December 16th (Reporters Liu Chunyan and Ouyang Dina), the "Nikkei" cited a research institution's report, stating that the plan by U.S. President-elect Trump to impose higher tariffs on multiple countries will lead to increased domestic prices, decreased employment, and suppressed economic growth in the United States, potentially resulting in a 1.1% decrease in the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2027.

Previously, Trump announced that from the first day of his inauguration, the United States will impose higher tariffs on products from Mexico, Canada, and China. The Nikkei Research Institute was commissioned by the Japan External Trade Organization to calculate the impact of this policy. The conclusion shows that compared to the scenario without increased tariffs, the U.S. GDP in 2027 is expected to decrease by 1.1%, with the mining and agricultural sectors each declining by 1.5%.
