At a press conference on October 23, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian responded to the International Energy Agency's "World Energy Outlook" and "Renewable Energy Report," which highlighted China's leading role in the global energy transition. He noted that China has made significant efforts in addressing climate change and promoting green energy transformation. Over the past decade, the growth of China's clean energy generation has accounted for more than half of the increase in domestic electricity demand, with renewable energy's annual new installed capacity accounting for over 40% of the global total and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 3 billion tons.
Lin Jian emphasized that China has not only established the world's largest carbon emissions trading market but also cooperated with more than 100 countries and regions on green energy projects, building several significant hydropower, photovoltaic, and wind power projects in developing countries. China has stopped building new coal-fired power projects abroad and has formed advanced green production capacities in the "new three industries," making important contributions to the global energy transition.
He mentioned that in promoting energy transition, China has fully considered its actual situation and development stage, achieving high-quality economic and social development by developing new productive forces. At the same time, Lin Jian called for global efforts to achieve energy transition goals, pointing out that developed countries should fulfill their commitments and create favorable conditions for international green cooperation. He warned that protectionism, unilateralism, and over-politicization would only harm the common interests of the international community.
Finally, Lin Jian stressed that the global energy transition is not only China's "story" but also a "world story" that requires unity and cooperation among all countries. He stated that China will continue to follow the concept of ecological civilization, deepen cooperation with the international community, promote sustainable energy development, and make a greater contribution to global climate change response and green, low-carbon energy transition.
